I have used this in place of tomato paste and pizza sauce and it works great. I love being able to use only what I need (I rarely need a full can of tomato paste). Seems expensive per can though.Review by OzarkGal
With the aforementioned problems caused by humidity, the flavor of this product is superior to most tomato pastes. It's brighter and fresher, probably because it hasn't been cooked to death as tomato paste is. Once it's set up, your done, though. It keeps well a long time after but have an ice pick handy. When not using for a long time after opening, keeping it in the fridge will dehydrate it somewhat. Be sure to bring it to room temperature in an air conditioned/heated space with the lid on to thwart any condensation from building up inside the can before using. I put some into almost every stock, stew, soup, sauce, and chili that i make. It's very easy to use a big can before the quality degrades even with the problems.Review by willy
Great product, yes the odor is different but not in a bad way. It should be noted that instead of using the powder directly in hot liquids (it doesn’t dissolve the best in hot liquid – kind of like instant milk doesn’t), it is best to mix it with cold water into a paste or sauce and then add to your recipe. It is also best to use the product asap after it is opened or place it in a COMPLETELY air tight container away from ANY humidity. If you live in a high humidity area, it will suck moisture from the air (even with lid on can) and will become a hard brick which needs a hammer and chisel to break apart. That being said, it is a wonderful product and can replace all your pureed tomato needs, from tomato soup, marinara sauce, soups, casseroles etc. and I will continue to purchase it. It’s a great bargain and I always have it on hand. Purchasing from Honeyville has saved me so much money because it lessens waste, it’s always on hand so no impulse buying, and I don’t have to worry about the food going bad. If you can’t purchase all the items you need all at once, buy a few items at a time. The shipping rate doesn’t get any better.Review by Sophia
After several swollen cans of paste I decided to try this. It makes a rich tasting and looking tomato paste. The only draw back I have had here in coastal Maine is I opened it in a humid time and it hardened up on me. It has not stopped me from chipping it out and using it at all. But now I know how humidity affects this stuff I will deal with it differently. I love this and it tastes as good as canned and better.Review by Nora
Great flavor, concentrated like tomato paste, almost none of the salt of prepared sauces. Mixes quickly. Love it!Review by JW
I tried this to hopefully replace buying tomato sauce and paste in cans. When I opened the can of tomato powder and smelled it I was a little disappointed. The smell wasn't the greatest but when I used it the first time as tomato sauce it was wonderful. The sauce had a great consistency and smelled much better than any canned tomato sauce I have ever used. The spagetti sauce I made was smooth and not acidic and I love that I can just sprinkle some powder in the dish if it needs to be a little thicker. I have used the powder as sauce and as paste. Works like a charm. I gave some to my daughters to try and they love it too. I don't think I will ever buy tomato sauce and tomato paste in cans again. I highly recommend it.Review by Cajuncook
