Honeyville's Whole Grain Buckwheat is actually not related to wheat at all. Buckwheat comes from a plant and is naturally gluten-free. Buckwheat production is mainly focused in eastern country cuisine like Russia, China, Poland and Ukraine. Buckwheat is used to make soba noodles, porridge, pancakes and even used for beer. Honeyville Whole Grain Buckwheat is an ideal product for long term food storage and emergency preparedness.

Shelf-Life:  Whole Grain Buckwheat will store for 1 year in a sealed 50 pound bag under ideal storage conditions (cool, dry place).

Uses:  Whole Grain Buckwheat is used to make goods like pancakes, soups, soba noodles, porridge and more.

Packaging:  Whole Grain Buckwheat in bulk is available in a 50 pound bag. Packaging may vary.

Good Product

For those that asked but were never answered yes this is raw hulled buckwheat. Not toasted. It was shipped quickly. Its pretty clean just noticed a bit grain dust when pouring buckwheat out of bag into buckets. Tastes fine not stale or anything. I have seen higher quality but the higher quality buckwheat came in small pkg and for much higher price per pound. I dont need to pay huge amounts extra for perfection. Very good is good enough. As to cooking I like a half and half mix of hulled buckwheat and hulled millet cooked together in pressure cooker for 8 to 10 minutes at 15psi. Way I do it is to put rack in pressure cooker half inch water (creates the steam) then put stainless steel bowl in on top of rack with one cup buckwheat one cup millet and three cups water into bowl. Close cooker bring up to pressure set timer for 8 to 10 minutes and turn off stove at end of time period and let cooker cool naturally. You can cool it quicker (however your pressure cooker manufacturer suggests doing this) but nothing is gained except a bit time. If you like bit potato mixed in (makes it less sticky/clumpy) can cook a whole uncut/unpeeled potato in bowl with the grain. It will be perfect "baked potato" at end of 10 minutes. I like squirt of olive oil squirt of hot sauce and squirt of soy sauce in mine then stirred but season it however you like. Using the bowl inside the cooker means less mess and no chance of scorching/sticking grain in bottom of cooker. Just pull out the bowl and can then just rinse the cooker and then wash the bowl when through with it. Lot easier than having to scrub a pressure cooker. I cook any grain or bean in cooker this way anymore. There are more than one person with videos on cooking rice this way on youtube for some time now and yet some pressure cooker forum that I must have shared my email with sent me how they recently discovered this new better way to cook rice and small grains. Yea right...

Whole Grain Buckwheat (Kasha)

I have not yet purchased this product from Honeyville but I read the 3 reviews. One said the seeds were broken up... not good. I originally bought a 30# bag locally and all the seeds are perfect in shape and well toasted. This makes wonderful Kasha but I am gradually running out and need to locate a new source to purchase. Is the Buckwheat from Honeyville toasted is it raw. And are some of the seeds truly broken up?

Good grain

There are no rocks or dirt or other impurities unlike other sources I've tried. It can go straight from the bag to the grain mill. Two thumbs up.
