Gamma Lids are the best

I couldn't get the lid apart at first so i had to call CS. The lady told me to put the lid on the bucket and then twist to the left and it worked :) Then i had to use a mallet to secure the bottom ring onto the bucket before putting the screw on part back into it.

I recommend this bucket and lid and glad i bought it.Now i will be buying more!

Expensive - but great product!

I bought a couple of these buckets with gamma lids several years ago for my long term food storage needs - and now I'm back to buy more for my every day needs. I have been very pleased with the food-grade quality of the buckets and the seal of the ring/gamma lid. I have stored rice, sugar, pasta, etc. and 3 yrs. later they are as fresh as the day I sealed them!

I didn't experience any problems getting the ring on the bucket like others have reported. However, I used the hint someone else posted where I set the ring on the bucket, took a board (2x4), placed it across the top, and gently hammered so that it went on evenly. You could easily do this with a rag and a hammer as well.

I can't testify to the regular lids and don't know how they work. But as for the gamma lid, it is super easy to use! You just spin and tighten (just don't over tighten or you'll struggle to get it open again). I live in a very humid climate and I've dealt with sugar and salt sweating and clumping in the past. This solved the problem perfectly! However, I would recommend not opening too frequently as this allows the moisture to enter.

My only complaint is the price. They are expensive...but so is throwing out dry goods when they get saturated with moisture or mold. I can now buy in bulk and feel confident that they'll stay fresh for the long haul in these buckets.

These lids SUCK!

I have to admit that I got angry because he was not manly enough to remove this lid. It would not screw off you could not pry it off and it had to be ripped off with screw drivers and other tools which caused it to be demolished. Do not buy this. I just wasted $10 by demolishing the lid.

gamma lids

Susan. I am glad you got the lid on but by turning the bucket upside down upon the lid wouldn't whatever is in the bucket come out??? Or did you just put a lid on an empty bucket? Missing something here.

Farmer

In response to Chets comment on the 5 gallon buckets available at Lowe's. I spoke to the Corp. Buyer handling the buckets you mentioned and was told they were made in China and were NOT food grade. I also got a similar response from Home Depot there buckets are US made but again in speaking to the buyer as well as the manufacturer neither would confirm food grade. I hope this will help.

Gamma Lids

The Gamma bucket lids are very easy to seal if you know the trick to it. As stated in another post just seperate the two lids pieces and use a rubber mallet to attach the bottom rim. Then simply screw the center rim in.

Lids

These types of lids are difficult to seal but you know it is sealed! That is the important thing. I start with the lid tilted and work my way around with a large rubber mallet I have even used a large hammer and a board. Whack the board while in contact with the lid - it goes right on.

How the He** do you put the lid on

I just pounded on the lid for half and hour trying to get it to close. I am so aggravated. I can't seem to read prior reviews to find out if anyone had this problem and how it was solved. Stay away from this product

Does the job!

While these buckets take some effort to seal they are well worth that effort! I've had grains stored in these buckets for years (with the oxygen absorbers) and the grain is as fresh as the day I sealed them!
