Very good!

I just started getting your products recently. Mainly because I was tired of the Mr. eating fast food or places be closed due to time and place while on a business trip. He's an aircraft technician so who knows when that call will come and where and when he will be. I can now use your products to make homemade Mylar bags meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as dessert! So far, I've used the ground beef in pasta dish meat sauce, tacos, nacho salad, beef alfredo. He liked it all so far and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm just happy he can now eat healthier, homestyle meals. I just have to expand my recipes (trial and error but tasty errors! LOL). Highly recommended to all! (PS - don't just use hot water. Boiling mad hot regardless of using Mylar bags or not.)

This is a MUST HAVE item for the pantry!

My wife and I tried the ground beef to test out the viability of using this in our preparations for the winter (or anything else that may keep us indoors for a prolonged timeframe!)
It was one of our usual spaghetti dishes we have on a regular basis with the freeze dried beef as the only variable. It was delicious!!
Definitely a keeper and we are planning buying more and are trying the chicken next. Updates on the way!!Way to go Honeyville!!

It's ok, not great, but not terrible

The meat smells very strong when you open the can. All the fine dust like crumbles are at the bottom, which is to be expected for a low moisture food product. I would buy again for emergency food, but not to eat weekly or daily.

Great for Off-Grid

We're off-grid in the Alaskan bush and shelf-stable food is a daily use item. The Honeyville Ground Beef is excellent for soups, sloppy-joes, chili and pasta sauce. Compared to the other freeze-dried meats, the Groun Beef does seem to be more fragile resulting in more breakage and dust, but we usually pass the whole can through a sieve and use the dust and smaller particles to thicken pasta sauce or chili, or rehydrated in a little broth as emergency pet food. Works and tastes great in a multitude of recipes. It's a little spendy, but much more economical than running the generator to keep a freezer full of meat long term.

Just wondering

has anyone else noticed that most all reviews for different products are posted on the same day? Interested in trying honeyville products, but would like honest reviews, please. [Honeyville Response]: We changed cart platforms and imported reviews from our old system in to the new. Dates were not something we could bring across. Sorry for the confusion.

Good for certain uses

The flavor of this is fine and for that I'd give it 5 stars. However the texture -- as with the Rancher's Cut Chicken -- tends to be crumbly with a good deal of meat dust in the can. So on texture I'd give it a three. If you're making meatballs or meatloaf the crumbliness isn't a bad thing; but if you're making something where you want to have the meat intact this might be a problem. So averaging between the two I'll give it 4 stars but if you're making meatballs this is a 5-star product.

EASY

Fine texture of beef makes it great in tacos and sloppy joes also put it in soup. I was tired of cooking up a whole pound of beef when i didnt need it and guess who is the only person in the house to eat leftovers.. ME. So now i just make what ever amount i want. So Easy to stock up on meat without buying a freezer etc...Freeze Dried is the best way!

Revised and revisited.....

If you use this product and the taste and smell is to strong your not using BOILING HOT water Crazy Boiling Hot Water (is there such a thing :). Experimenting with the can I have I found that if you boil a cup of water on a stove in a deep pot with the lid on make sure it is a roiling boil. When the water is boiling pour 1/2 cup of meat into the pot and then take it off the stove. You need a deep enough pot so that when you pour the meat in the foam will not go over the sides of the pot ( think of how a deep fryer acts ). I use a quart and a half pot for one 1/2 cup of meat and one cup of water this seems to be a good combination. IF the meat does not foam some when you pour it in the water was not hot enough. Let sit for about 6 minutes string only once after you pour the water in. Also if you are outside you may need to put your pot in a pot cozy or towel to keep it from getting cool to quickly. If the pot cools off it will not re-hydrate the meat properly. Drain and use as any ground meat in soups stews or sauces. Now my daughter says it tastes OK since she is our resident food critic I can now use it in my meal plans.

Disappointing

I have a can that I am not sure I can use. I think the flavor and smell is quite strong and I can't seem to make the flavor calm down with repeated rinses. I gave some to others and they don't like the strong flavor either. I was hoping it would be an easy way to have it on hand for camping and hiking but I'm sorry to say it is not usable. My wife said that maybe we got a bad run but the price is to high to justify trying another can.

Great Product a Real Time Saver

So far I've used this in spaghetti sloppy joes and tacos. I have absolutely no complaints. After rehydrating rather than drain I usually substitute the access water for the water called for in the various recipes. The small pieces of beef break-up very easily so I've found it works better to pour from the can rather than scoop. Also much of the beef appears to be nothing but powder. The powder rehydrates into small beef and is completely usable.
